☯️ Chinese Philosophy: Yin and Yang Principles
Chinese Medicine, dating back to 3000 BCE, is founded on the principle of observation. “What you see it what you get”. The concept of Yin and Yang is representing the understanding that every darkness contains light, and every light contains darkness. One cannot exist without the other.
Yin
Yin is associated with the dark, black, feminine energy. It is characterized by inward movement, rest, cold, and substance. In the body, Yin correlates with the lower body, the inner side (chest and abdomen), and the Full Organs (Zang organs: Heart, Liver, Spleen, Lungs, Kidneys). A Yin state in the body presents as coldness, paleness, weakness, slow pulse, and soft stools or diarrhea. Treatment for Excess Yin involves strengthening the Yang through warming and movement.

Yang
Yang is associated with the light, white, masculine energy. It is defined by outward and upward movement, activity, heat, and energy. In the body, Yang correlates with the upper body, the outer side (the back), and the Hollow Organs (Fu organs: Intestines, Stomach, Bladder, Gallbladder, Blood Vessels). A Yang state presents as heat, redness, restlessness, fast pulse, increased hunger, and dark urine or constipation. Treatment for Excess Yang involves balancing the Yin, cooling, and clearing heat from the body.
